Registration for Summer Camps Treat your child to an experiential learning adventure out on the farm with a Summer Camp at The Learning Barn. Campers will enjoy daily hand-on activities, farm animals, stories and memory-making fun!
Week-long summer day camps will run from 9:00 am -3:00 pm. Space is limited to 12 campers per session (minimum enrollment 5). Campers should pack a bagged lunch, and farm-suitable clothing is recommended. Cost per camp is $250. Campers should be registered by the Monday prior to the first day of camp.

To enroll your child in a summer learning adventure at The Learning Barn, follow these 3 easy steps:
Select a camp for your child’s age and interest from the list below.
Download and complete the Summer Camp Enrollment Form.
Submit the completed Summer Camp Enrollment Form and the $250 camp fee (checks made out to The Learning Barn) to: The Learning Barn, 2854 Country Club Rd., Troutville, VA 24175. Confirmation of receipt will be sent via email.
Backyard Bird Sleuths (Ages 8-11) Registration for this camp is now closed.
Engage in some high-flying ornithology adventure on the farm! Discover the features, habitat, migration, and movements unique to our domestic and wild feathered friends through games, story books, and hands-on interaction with the birds that reside here. Practice inquiry as you conduct experiments and use the tools of a citizen scientist in conjunction with a leading university. Express your creativity in daily bird crafts, and design and engineer an upcycled bird feeder.
Wading in the Water (Ages 10-13) Registration for this camp is now closed. Splash in the stream as you fine-tune your fishing skills! Meander along the creek bank to explore the biological world of fish, amphibians, and macroinvertebrates. Conduct chemistry experiments, and develop a secret bubble recipe, using tools-of-the-trade. Launch a water rocket, let your creativity flow with crafty expressions, and immerse yourself in engineering design while inventing an upcycled micro-water craft.
Digging in the Dirt (Ages 12-15) Registration for this camp is now closed.
Discover the treasures buried underground! Investigate the geology of rocks, minerals and fossils using science process skills. Examine the anatomy of dirt-loving critters, conduct soil testing for agronomy and pharmaceutical research in conjunction with a well-known university, and engage in box turtle monitoring using the tools of a citizen scientist. Turn root crops into natural dyes for artistic creativity, and design and engineer a unique upcycled farming machine.
Field Testing the Farmer’s Almanac (Ages 14-17) Registration for this camp is now closed.
Examine clues to healthy harvesting out in the garden and high in the sky! Use meteorology tools to test the predictions of this popular guidebook. Assemble a Galileo telescope, and discover what astronomers have come to know about sustainable agriculture and our Solar System. Design a Farmer’s Almanac link for our school webpage, build an upcycled weather vane, and engineer a solar oven that prepares tasty treats harvested on the farm.
